Sunday 08-03-03:
Today I had one of the most perfect sundays I have ever had. Woke up and went to Vegetarian Dim Sum house (I know its a terrible affliction) with Jeannie, Mark, Annatha, Adrian, and Pimpila. Then I was supposed to show my brothers girlfriend around town, but she got lost in Queens somewhere and couldn't make it.
So me Jeannie and Mark decided on the fly to go to Coney Island. We took the train down to brighton beach and we walked along the boardwalk to Coney Island. In all my years of living in New York I had never gone to Coney Island, not even when I was little. It was great. There were tons of people. They had a live band playing merengue on the boardwalk. Had fries from the original nathans hotdog's (you know where they have that hotdog eating contest every year). We ate lychees french fries and drank coke, while the wind blew sand into everything. Then we decided we had to at least touch the wate. So we took off our shoes and waded in the surf (brrrr). We walked by the rocks and I remembered that when I was little we used to pick mussles off the rocks in Rockaway beach and then cook them when we got home from the beach (not too healthy, but hey I'm still alive). Then just before we got on the train I bought a caramel apple with nuts (oh yeah).
We took the train to Jeannie's and my old apartment in brooklyn. Its on the edge of Gawanus. The whole neighborhood has changed soooo much. The whole place is being infested by hipsters. It's like a williamsburgh type situation there now. All of the rents in the area have doubled. There is a champagne store one block from us, as well as a wine and cheese shop and boutiques that only sell hipster stuff. Its horrific. I don't know where all of the displaced people will go. Brooklyn has become so overrun by rich kids in second hand clothing. Anyway, we ate at Hunan delight which was one of our favorite restaurants in that neighborhood. They make great fake meat vegetarian dishes. Then we went to Uncle louie G's italian ice place. I had killer kiwi flavor. It was the shiznit. Then we went home where I met up with Cristin O'keefe Aptowicz (Aptowicz.com), to correct some errors things on her chapbook (which looks great, and you should really buy). All in all a pretty damn good day.
Anyway. Check out the song of the day. Just click on the link above this entry. Sleep well.
