08/18/2003 Entry: "NPS wrap up and Seven Staurday"
I still have not finished telling you about Nationals. Were up to Saturday. I'm only going to tell you the things that I enjoyed so this will be short. The Nerd Slam was fantasmic. Room full of nerds, and Geeks in Quimby's book store sharing their nerd pain and their nerd triumph, it was the nerdiest(meaning best). Quimby's was such a great place to do it too. They have such cool stuff, chapbooks and rare comics. I'm gonna go there whenever I'm in Chicago. Had a good convo with Cristin at Quimby's. She has such a great perspective and calm about everything, plus she's super talented. Yaaay!!!
Finals was the worst show I have ever seen at such a large venue. Mostly I think it was the hosting, although there were feelings of grumpiness at everything from the price, to the assigned seats, to the ferris wheel outside. LA won with some interesting stage work and some variety which really set them apart that night. Ook I need to say this: Marc Smith should stay behind the scenes from now on. He wanted to be the great and powerful OZ but came out looking like an old crazy inventor. I think Taylor Malishould run for NPS president, even though the position isn't open for elections. I think he has the organizational skill, the obsessive compulsivness, as well as the business savy to really turn NPS around. But I'm sure people will be against it. Haters!!! Anyway, thats enough of that.
The following Saturday (two days ago) I had a feature for Ishle's "Seven Saturday's" at the Bowery Poetry Club. I was the first feature. It was alright although the audience was not very responsive, although they were attentive. Got good responses afterwards, but during the feature I was a little uncomfortable. Audience is very important to my performance, I'm one of those people who can't just go on automatic. But after me Lara Stapelton, Chia Ti Chiu read great pieces but got small reponses. Florence Yoo was the musical guest of the night. She had to do a short set, but she was amazing. So quirky and funny, it was very hot to see her perfrom, even if it was only two pieces. Yaaay!!!!
So, Sunday, I did some work from home, and today Monday I am going to the Radiohead concert in Camden NJ with Omar. YAAAAAAAAAYYYYY!!!!Radiohead!!!!!! I always miss them or am unable to get tickets so I am very excited!!!!! Yaaaaayyaaaayyy!!!!!
