10/17/2003 Entry: "from Amherst 0ct 17 2003"
oct 17- So I am logging right now from Amherst College deep in the heart of Red Sox country. Quickly, I didn't think that was goingto happen last night. Rich an Johanna and I joked about the curse last night as we figured the Yankees had already lost. But anyway enough about that. Before I tell you about the show that I at right now, let me tell you about yesterday. Rich Villar and I drove up to New Paltz for a gig at SUNY New Paltz through the Nuyorican (thank you Karen.) The drive was frustrating, a watermain broke on Amsterdam and 180th so it took us three hours to do a one hour drive. Once we got there it was cool though. The crowd was tight I'm bad at estimating but it was like a hundred in and out. It was a little hectic as far as organizing I went first even before the open mic people ( it was a mistake) but it went pretty good. After me a couple of open mic people went most of them were pretty good, Johanna, this amazing Domincan poet tore up the house she is one of my new favorites. Then a little later Rich did the same thing, as he raised and tore the house down. Afterwards the three of us drove down together and had a great time. It was mad funny.
So right now I am up at voices of the voiceless at Amherst College. There are seventeen poets perfroming, its going to be a long but wonderful night. I'll let you know how it goes as it is just starting.
