08/17/2004 Entry: "Garden State"
I went to see the movie "Garden State" yesterday. I was hoping it would be a well written well directed indie movie, quirky and funny. It was all of those things and more. I don't think I have laughed that hard in a movie in a long time. The comedy was subtle at times and hilarious at others. I loved it. The movie was really well balanced too, the dialogue was believable, the characters were layered, and it was interestingly shot. I think I might have to see it again. My favorite movie this year since "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind" which had a lot in common with this movie. Its very introspective, and touching, even sad at times. Zach Braff was amazing, and so was Natalie Portman. Go see this movie now before it disappears from theaters, after-all its a pretty small movie.
Nerds: One thing to look out for in the scene towards the end where Zach's friend is playing guitar in his bedroom. Look on the shelf behind Zach there are DND players manuals on the left shelf and DND miniatures in a box on the right. Plus man at arms from he-man. I kid you not. It becomes really clear just before the fade to the next scene. Plus they speak a certain language in the movie that I know the geeks are gonna love.
In other news Bjork is coming out with an album at the end of the month. I just ordered it from her website, I've heard a couple of tracks I am so excited. Yaay. I hope she tours.
