How important is survival to you? Would you kill your friends if it meant you could live? I watched the movie Battle Royale last night, a japanese action movie about a group of 9th grade students that are told that only one of them can escape a military institution and in order to survive they must kill eachother with the weopens they are provided. It was cheesy at parts but it captured some real moments of fear, trust, the instinct to survive, but also some of them just refused to believe in the horror of the situation and either killed themselves or allowed themselves to be killed by others. It was a good movie but I think I couldn't enjoy the movie in it's proper action genre because I kept thinking how bleak the situation in the US has become and where it might go from here if W gets another term. Not that I think it could happen, but what if that bastard destroys the world and everyone is left to fight for survival. We live in such a fearful society now. Everyone is willing to trade away liberties and give up neighbors in the name of national security. There are pat downs for flights now, and bookstores cooperating with Homeland Security. If it did come down to a kill or be killed situation, I'm not sure which role I would take on. I really don't know.
