09/26/2004 Entry: "friend test"

So the newest thing sweeping the net or at least my circle of friends is the "Friend Test". While I have taken two of them gotten a 30 on one and a 100 on another, I am not going to do another one. These tests to me do not mean that much. I know people that have gotten apologetic calls and emails trying to explain why they got a "low" score even though they have been friends for years, decades in some cases. I have never understood how knowing my favorite color or knowing my moon sign will make someone a better friend in my hour of need or just at a time when I want to hang out. I think a better friend test would be how many embarrassing moments of mine have you been there for? How many of my follies and shortcomings are you privy to? Is there a time when it would be too late to call if I really needed to talk? Do you know how best to cheer me up? These things have no bearing on what my favorite brand of cereal is unless you were there or know that I got caught stealing Frankenberry cereal from the supermarket, and I didn't. I think its fine fun to make those tests and take them but I have heard people shocked and apologize for getting low scores or suddenly amazed when someone guesses a high score and at that point is when I stop taking them. So anyone that sent me a "take my friend test" email don't be upset if I don't take it but know that I'll be there if you ever need help painting your apartment.

Song of the day is "Youre a Friend of Mine" by Clarence Clemons and Jackson Browne

I thought the funniest thing was my 60 on Eliel's test, whom I know almost nothing about!
