So I'm sitting here in Hawaii and can't escape New York. Even amongst all of this sun five thousand miles comes through the tv screen and people poolside are screaming their heads off. Since 2pm here people have been riveted to the New York Vs. Boston game. The sun has set and people are still ordering beers and cheering or jeering at every pitch. Anyone that knows me knows that I have been a Yankees fan since I was a kid. So I'm not happy that the Yankees lost. Especially when most experts agree the main reason that Boston hasn't won a world series in 80 years is because they were the last team to get a player of color. Even recently latin and African american players have been reluctant to go to Boston because of race issues. When you look at the Yankees you see latin , black, asian and white players, and so even though the Red Sox were underdogs. I never really felt bad. So I started thinking a few days ago what could be different about this year. Could it be that Boston would serve some greater purpose this year. Maybe some national purpose. If Houston wins their series then it will be Boston Vs. Houston. Massachusetts vs. Texas. Could it be a coincidence that it mirrors the presidential election just two weeks before elections. Maybe Boston won to swing undecided voters to Kerry. I know its far fetched but don't you think Boston has gotten and will get a lot of press out of this. Don't you think John Kerry and indeed the entire media will pick up on it and the game will become a symbol of a much larger and more important match up. If this means that subconsciously people will think that "God" or whatever meant Boston to beat unbeatable odds against an insurmountable foe so that Kerry will be more confidant or People will think it couldn't be a coincidence, and vote Kerry into the white house, then I am just as happy as every lily white Mass. fan in the Waikiki outrigger reef poolside sports bar. Yaay Boston whip some Houston ass!!!!!
